At Anchored Counseling and Wellness, we provide services for ages 3-100 and work with clients in all stages of life. We provide individual counseling, family counseling, and couples counseling. At times we may also offer group services.

Individual Counseling

Counseling is a collaborative process between therapist and client that aims to facilitate change and improve quality of life. Therapy can help people confront barriers that interfere with emotional and mental well-being, and it can also increase positive feelings such as compassion, self-esteem, love, courage, and peace. The goal of counseling is to learn new skills and ways of thinking to reduce uncomfortable symptoms. Many people find they enjoy the therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware, and they may pursue ongoing counseling as a means of self-growth.

Couples Counseling

The purpose of couples therapy is to restore a better level of functioning in couples who experience relationship distress. The reasons for distress can include poor communication skills, incompatibility, or a broad spectrum of psychological disorders. The focus of couples therapy is to identify the presence of dissatisfaction and distress in the relationship, and to devise and implement a treatment plan with objectives designed to improve or alleviate the presenting symptoms and restore the relationship to a better and healthier level of functioning.

Parenting is difficult and children don't come with manuals. Your counselor will work with you your child and help to identify the parenting techniques best for your unique situation.

Jennifer Collins is certified in Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) and highly skilled at assisting parents. Triple P is a parenting and family support system designed to prevent ,as well as treat  behavioral and emotional problems in children and teenagers. It aims to prevent problems in the family, school and community before they arise and to create family environments that encourage children to realize their potential. These sessions range from 4 to 10 sessions and  are in depth and require full cooperation from parents.

Play Therapy

In play therapy, the counselor strategically utilize play to help children express what is troubling them when they do not have the verbal language to express their thoughts and feelings. In play therapy, toys are like the child's words and play is the child's language. The counselor assists the child in expressing themselves and then practice using new skills to manage and cope with their situation.

As a Counselor, We Do Not:

We do not prescribe medication

As counselors, our role is to assist you in exploring your personal history, your current symptoms, and your goals. We facilitate personal growth and improved wellness through teaching new skills, identifying maladaptive habits and thinking patterns and establishing a concrete plan for change.

While we cannot prescribe medication, we will refer you to an appropriate specialist or work with your current primary care physician to coordinate care.

We do not make decisions for you

You are the expert in your own life. All changes and decisions will be made by you. As counselors, we will guide, motivate, encourage, educate, and inform. But each and every decision about your life must be made by you.

We do not judge

We are non-judgmental and Anchored Counseling and Wellness is a safe place for your to be exactly who you are. You can express your fears, feelings, hopes and dreams.without fear of judgement.

Behavior Management

In situations where behavior is inappropriate or unhealthy, the counselor may suggest utilizing behavior management strategies. Your counselor will help you to develop a detailed behavior management plan tailored to your unique circumstances to change your child’s behavior. Your counselor will assist you in implementing the plan and then help you evaluate the plan’s effectiveness and make any necessary changes.
